This poem reminds me of what many of us lived in Cuba. I was born after the revolution, but many blindly supported that change. A change that sadly changed our lives forever.

That's a great example of the blind support I was describing in the poem! Thanks for sharing your perspective, it's very aligned with the need for critical thinking and awareness my poem calls for.

I couldn't agree more Ana! Fulgencio Batista was a thug no doubt. But Fidel Castro and the Communists would be SO much worse! At least under Batista the Cuban people had a greater degree of freedom then they do now. Fidel Castro, Che Guevara and the rest of their crew betrayed the revolution, revealed themselves to be Marxists and plunged the nation into a nightmare it still has not woken up from. This is why some of the folks he fought with went into the jungles and launched a guerrilla war against the Castro regime (funny how Castro and his cronies get praise for this but not these brave freedom fighters. Where's their Hollywood movie?). Those in Cuba who did not flee simply accepted Castro as their nation's "savior" and zealously followed him. It should also be noted that one can sympathize with Batista somewhat as even though he was the nation's President he could not join the prestigious Havana Yacht Club because he was half black and his regime did much to help Afro-Cubans. The United States made the fatal mistake of pulling their support for Batista and backing Castro and the 26th of July Revolution because they thought it would lead to democracy in Cuba. How wrong they were! Cuban democracy probably would have developed all on its own had Castro not come along and messed everything up. By the way, Fidel Castro admired Adolf Hitler. His "History Will Absolve Me" speech was inspired by the Fuhrer.
